Heat pump water heaters

Cut what you pay to heat water.

A heat pump water heater pulls warmth out of the air around it instead of making heat from scratch. In a Phoenix garage, there's plenty of warm air to work with.

How it works

The same idea as your AC, run in reverse

A small heat pump on top of the tank moves heat from the surrounding air into the water. It uses far less electricity than the heating elements in a standard electric tank, and keeps a backup element for days when the family runs through a lot of hot water.

Lower electric bills

Heat pump models use a fraction of the electricity of a standard electric water heater to make the same hot water.

Made for Phoenix garages

Heat pumps work best surrounded by warm air, and they exhaust cooler air as they run.

Usually no electrical work

Most models run on the same 240V circuit as an electric tank, so it's a straightforward swap for most homes.

Smart controls

Choose efficiency, high-demand or vacation modes, and get leak alerts on many models.

Common questions

How does the SRP rebate work?

SRP pays $500 to residential customers who have an ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater installed by a licensed Arizona plumbing contractor. You need to have had SRP service at the home for more than a year, and the install has to be done before April 30, 2027. We fill out and submit the paperwork for you after the install.

I'm an APS customer. Is there a rebate?

APS ended its residential equipment rebates in January 2026. A heat pump still lowers what you pay to heat water every month.

Is a heat pump water heater loud?

You'll hear a low hum when the heat pump is running, similar to a refrigerator or a small window unit. In a garage, most people don't notice it.

Will it make enough hot water?

A 50-gallon heat pump stores the same amount of water as a 50-gallon tank, and its backup element kicks in during heavy use. For bigger households we'll talk through sizing during your quote.

Can I finance it?

Yes. 0% interest financing is available on approved credit, and your price is the same whether you pay in full or finance.
